Appomattox is a small Virginia town about 90 miles southwest of Richmond, accessible via US-360 west or US-460 east from Lynchburg. Most visitors come for the National Historical Park, where Lee surrendered to Grant in 1865, ending the Civil War. The reconstructed McLean House uses the original bricks from the actual surrender site.
