Applegate is a tiny farming community in Michigan's Thumb region, about 60 miles northeast of Detroit in rural Sanilac County. Reach it via I-69 north from Detroit, then county roads through farmland, or M-24 north from Flint to local routes. The area's historic one-room schoolhouse from 1876 still stands as a landmark of the community's agricultural heritage.
