Ansted perches on the rim of New River Gorge in the West Virginia mountains, about 45 miles from Charleston via US Route 60. The town sits at 2,000 feet elevation with dramatic gorge views and serves as a gateway to the national park. The Contentment Museum Complex, housed in an 1830s mansion, displays Civil War artifacts and local mountain history.
