Anna sits in southern Illinois hill country about 30 minutes from the Kentucky border, serving as Union County's seat with around 4,200 residents. Take I-57 to Exit 30 for the most direct access, or use historic US Route 51 for a more scenic approach through small farming communities. The town connects east-west via State Route 146, linking Mississippi River towns with the Ohio River valley. Anna is home to one of Illinois' last remaining state psychiatric hospitals, the Choate Mental Health Center, which has anchored the local economy since 1869.
