Aniak is a remote Alaskan city on the Kuskokwim River, about 300 miles southwest of Anchorage. There are no roads here - you fly into Aniak Airport or arrive by boat in summer. It's a regional hub for the river valley with subarctic winters and mild summers. The city hosts one of the area's few regional high schools, where students from surrounding villages live in dorms.
