Amistad is a tiny Texas community of 24 people near the Mexican border, about 10 miles east of Del Rio on US Highway 90. Visitors typically drive US 90 west from San Antonio (150 miles) or connect via I-10 and US 277 from other directions. The nearest major airport is San Antonio. The town sits in Chihuahuan Desert country along the Rio Grande and takes its name from nearby Amistad Reservoir, one of Texas's largest lakes.
