Americus is a small farming town in east-central Kansas, about 25 miles southwest of Emporia on Highway 99. With under 1,000 residents, it sits in the scenic Flint Hills region where tallgrass prairie stretches for miles. Most visitors arrive via Highway 99 from Emporia and I-35, though County Road 170 offers a prettier route through ranch country. The town features a working 1920s grain elevator that still serves local farmers.
