Americus sits in Georgia's farm country about 130 miles south of Atlanta via I-75 and US 280. The town connects to Plains (Carter's hometown) 10 miles south via Route 49, and to Albany 40 miles west on US 280. It's the birthplace of Habitat for Humanity, founded at nearby Koinonia Farm in 1976.
