Alton is a farming town of about 1,450 people in northwest Iowa, 12 miles southeast of Sioux City via Highway 10. The drive from Sioux City takes 20 minutes through corn and soybean country. Highway 60 runs north-south through town. The grain elevator operated by the local co-op towers over the prairie and serves as a landmark visible for miles.
