Alto Pass is a small community of 343 people tucked into the Shawnee National Forest hills in southern Illinois. Take I-57 to Marion, then Route 146 west for 15 miles, or approach from Cape Girardeau via US-51 north to Route 146. The town sits along the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail and features a preserved Illinois Central railroad depot.
