Altenburg is a small Perry County town of about 425 people in southeastern Missouri, about 90 minutes south of St. Louis via Highway 61. Founded by German Lutheran immigrants in 1839, it's home to the Saxon Lutheran Memorial commemorating one of America's largest organized German immigrations.
