Altavista is a small railroad town in south-central Virginia, about 45 minutes south of Lynchburg via US Route 29. The city developed around textile manufacturing and sits along the Staunton River in Campbell County's rolling Piedmont landscape. State Route 43 runs east-west through town, while US 29 provides the main connection to Lynchburg and points south toward Danville. The historic 1905 train station now operates as a museum dedicated to the area's Norfolk and Western Railway heritage.
