Alta is a farming town of 2,250 people in northwest Iowa, about 15 miles from Storm Lake via Highway 7. Most visitors drive Highway 71 north from Des Moines then west on Highway 7, or take Highway 20 to Highway 71 from Sioux City. The town sits in classic Iowa corn country with a restored 1913 opera house anchoring its small downtown.
