Allen is a tiny Floyd County community of 157 people in eastern Kentucky's Appalachian hills. Reach it via US Route 23, then local roads west from either Pikeville or Prestonsburg. The Mountain Parkway from Lexington connects to US-23 for longer trips. Pike County Airport is about 30 miles southeast. The town developed where two small creeks meet in a narrow valley once centered around coal mining.
