Alexander is a tiny farming town of 245 people in north-central Iowa's Franklin County. Highway 3 runs east-west through town, connecting to Hampton (15 miles) and Clarion (12 miles), while longer trips use US 20 about 20 miles south to reach I-35, Ames, or Des Moines. The town was named after railroad executive Alexander Mitchell when it was platted in 1881.
