Akron is a tiny farming community of 243 people in west-central Alabama's Hale County. Highway 25 runs right through town, connecting to Highway 69 for trips to Tuscaloosa (45 miles) or Birmingham via I-20 (80 miles). The rural roads pass through pine forests and farmland typical of this part of Alabama. The town's small post office doubles as an informal community center where locals gather.
