Agency is a small farming town of 435 people in southeastern Iowa's Wapello County. Highway 34 provides the main access, running east-west through the area about 15 miles from Ottumwa. The town sits in typical Iowa agricultural country with a continental climate. Most traffic consists of travelers using Highway 34 as a corridor between larger communities, plus local agricultural traffic on county roads. The town was named after a Native American agency that operated here before Iowa statehood.
