Adena is a small Ohio River Valley community of about 700 people in Jefferson County, reached via State Route 43 from Steubenville or Interstate 70 from Pittsburgh or Columbus. The rolling hills and river-carved landscape make for scenic drives, especially along State Route 7 that follows the Ohio River. The town takes its name from the ancient Adena culture, whose prehistoric earthen mounds still dot Jefferson County.
