Adel is a small Iowa city of about 6,400 people located 25 miles west of Des Moines along Highway 169. Most visitors take I-80 to Exit 113, then drive 10 minutes north into town. The city sits in rolling prairie country along the Raccoon River and serves as a bedroom community for Des Moines commuters. Adel is the birthplace of Nile Kinnick, the 1939 Heisman Trophy winner, commemorated by a statue in the town square.
