Ackerman is a small county seat in central Mississippi, home to about 1,800 people in the rolling pine country. Highway 15 runs north-south through town, connecting to Meridian 45 miles southeast and eventually Tennessee, while State Route 9 heads east-west toward Starkville and Mississippi State University. The red brick courthouse from the 1920s still dominates the town square.
