Abernathy is a small farming town about 20 miles north of Lubbock on US Highway 87. With around 3,300 residents, it sits in flat cotton and grain country on the South Plains. Most visitors drive up from Lubbock in 25 minutes, while longer trips connect via Interstate 27 to the east. The town's massive grain elevator complex towers over the plains and can be seen for miles.
