Aberdeen is a small Mississippi river town about 35 miles from Tupelo via Highway 45. The city sits along the Tombigbee River in rolling prairie country and serves as Monroe County's seat. Most visitors arrive on US 45 from Columbus to the south or continue from Tupelo toward Alabama. The town preserved an entire antebellum district with over 200 historic buildings that escaped Civil War destruction.
